Educators Are Taking Action in AI Education to Make Future-Ready Communities
AI Explorations and Their Practical Use in School Environments is an ISTE initiative funded by General Motors. The program provides professional learning opportunities for educators, with the goal of preparing all students for careers with AI. Recently, we spoke with three more participants of the AI Explorations program to learn about its ongoing impact in K-12 classrooms. Here, they share how the program is helping their districts implement AI curriculum with an eye toward equity in the classroom. Monica Rodriguez is a kindergarten teacher with Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas.

Collective Fruitions Announces the 2018 Emerging Technology Conference
The conference will be the first of its kind to cover both the business and technical elements of emerging technology. "Now more than ever, technology has the potential to revolutionize the world as we experience it," said Corey Ganser, CEO of Collective Fruitions. "In order to properly harness emerging technologies for a better future, technical experts must understand the business opportunity of their innovations, while in turn business leaders must have deep knowledge of the mechanics they will bring to market. This conference will bridge this gap with presentations from the foremost minds in both fields." Over the two-day conference, attendees will convene at St. Paul's Union Depot to learn from leaders sharing their expertise on a variety of emerging technologies and concepts, including Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Security, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Biotech.
2018 Emerging Technology Conference
The focus of this conference is to explore the emerging technologies that are shaping the world and impacting business. The sessions will cover topics like: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Security, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Biotech. If you have experience in any of these areas, make sure you submit a proposal through our Call for Speakers page.
Robot pole-dancers with CCTV cameras for heads perform in Las Vegas club during CES 2018
A pair of "robotic exotic dancers" are performing at a strip club in Las Vegas, during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 technology conference. Dubbed "#R2DoubleD" and "#TripleCPU", they are the newest attractions at sin city's Sapphire club. The humanoid robots, which can dance and gyrate around poles, are not designed to look like real people. Both have a CCTV camera for a head, feature exposed wiring and are built from scrap materials. They also wear high heels.

China's technology conference where AI tracks people
Artificial intelligence companies have shown off their tracking technology at the World Internet Conference in China - giving a glimpse of how citizens are being watched everyday. Companies such as China's facial recognition start-up Face showed how their technology is already being used to identify and describe people. For the first time, the'Big Brother' conference was attended by top executives like Tim Cook of Apple, Sundar Pichai of Google and Jack Ma of Alibaba. Guided by the hand of the state, tracking technology has become widely accepted in China and this vast data collection could mean these companies have an edge over American competitors. One company present at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen was Face which used its technology to identify people in the audience's gender, hair length, colour and clothing.

Box, Cognizant CFOs: Early Days or Not, AI Presents Many Opportunities - Media & Entertainment Services Alliance
Box and Cognizant see abundant opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), but it's still early days for the technology, according to comments made by both companies' CFOs at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference in Las Vegas Sept. 12. AI and machine learning (ML) are "certainly a couple of categories that we're pretty excited about" on both a medium- and long-term basis, Box CFO Dylan Smith said. Box has teamed with Google, IBM and Microsoft on various initiatives. The "next wave" of that is "really going to be around all things" AI and ML, Smith told the conference. He added: "We're always looking for ways -- to the extent that it makes sense for our customers and for our economics -- to leverage these public cloud providers for more and more capabilities over time." Asked which company that Box partners with has the most advanced AI and ML story, he said: "It's hard to say. I think, in different categories, it's probably different. I think it's still pretty early and although all of these partners are making some pretty major investments, certainly from an image recognition standpoint" Google is "leading the pack there," while "Microsoft is doing some pretty impressive things from a video recognition standpoint."

Technology Conference in San Francisco Brings Together International Researchers
More than 250 leading researchers from over 50 countries will gather at the Future Technologies Conference (FTC) in San Francisco next month. Running from 6 – 7 December, this event will focus on the future trends in technology and various experts will explore a plethora of topics such as: artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, security, IoT, robotics. She will speak about cognitive computing and how recent changes in the availability of data have driven rapid advances in analytics, enabling smarter applications, and bringing us to this new era. "We'll see how Watson, the Jeopardy!-playing Ruzena Bajcsy, Professor at the University of California, Berkeley will explore about the development of personalized models of kinematic and dynamics of an individual during physical activities and its applications in improving healthcare. Ella Atkins Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan will describe long-term research in improving safety and robustness through autonomous contingency management with application to manned and unmanned aircraft. Dr. Atkins will also summarize her research on the use of nontraditional databases and real-time data to reduce risk to people and property. Other speakers include James Loudermilk - Senior Level Technologist at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Science and Technology Branch, Bin He - Director of Institute for Engineering in Medicine, University of Minnesota and Arjuna Chala - Sr. Director of Innovation and Emerging Technology at HPCC Systems. In two days, the conference will host a total of six keynotes, five project demonstrations and 190 paper presentations organized into thirty sessions. The conference program also offers various networking opportunities including an evening reception which will give attendees the chance to mingle with other researchers after a day full of speakers, meetings, and thought-provoking topics. FTC 2016 is organized by The Science and Information (SAI) Organization whose mission is to connect global research community through journals, conferences and technical activities. Sponsors and partners for FTC 2016 include HPCC Systems, IEEE, IBM Research, University of Michigan, IBM Watson AI XPrize and Brown University.
